2017 MAV Aged and Disability Forum
On 12 October 2017 the MAV hosted a forum at the Melbourne Town Hall for Aged and Disability Managers.
A number of issues were raised at this forum, and attendees were updated on the Commonwealth Home Support Program, the Legislated Review of Aged Care (‘Tune Report’), the DHHS Aged Care Assessment Project, the Victorian Government’s efforts to support NDIS transition, and the HACC Program for Younger People.

2016 New Futures for Senior Citizen Centres and Clubs: Learnings from Council Practice
The MAV’s New Futures for Senior Citizen Centres and Clubs – Learnings from Council Practice session was held on Wednesday 16 November 2016.
The session explored and shared council approaches to working with Senior Citizen Clubs and managing Senior Citizen Centres to ensure on-going sustainability. Structured around a series of Panel discussions the session explored community needs, revitalising centres, accommodating new seniors groups and helping clubs transition or cease operating.

2016 Human Services Directors Forum: National Disability Insurance Scheme in Victoria
On 14 October 2016, the MAV Human Services Directors Forum focused on the NDIS rollout in Victoria. The forum included presentations from the NDIS, the Department of Health and Human Services, local government representatives and specialised consultants. 2016 Draft Global Strategy and Plan of Action on Ageing and Health
Dr John Beard, Director of Ageing and Life Course with the World Health Organization, presented to councillors, CEOs and senior council staff during a brief visit to Australia in June 2016. He spoke about the Global Strategy and what it means for healthy ageing at all levels of government particularly on council activities in positive ageing. This session presented a global perspective on healthy ageing and provided an opportunity to explore the role of local and state government in achieving age-friendly environments.
2016 Age-friendly Masterclass
In February 2016, the MAV (in partnership with COTA) held an Age-friendly Masterclass for local government and agency staff. The masterclass was led by Professor Suzanne Garon from the School of Social Work of the University of Sherbrooke, Canada.
It provided an opportunity for active participation on the topics raised by Professor Garon, council presenters and participants.
2015 NDIS and Local Government Forum
On 11 November 2015, the MAV held a forum on the opportunities and directions of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and implications for Local Government in Victoria.

2014 Age-friendly Communities and Local Government National Conference
This conference explored how councils can:
- Develop a vision and a council-wide response to creating age-friendly communities
- Provide the leadership and commitment to working with older people to meet the exciting challenges of an ageing community in the 21st century
- Deliver innovative approaches in affordable, sustainable and liveable neighbourhoods and homes
- Create welcoming, accessible and inclusive public places, parks, libraries, shopping centres, services and facilities
The event concluded with the signing of the Age-Friendly Victoria Partnership and Leadership Declaration by the MAV President and the Minister for Ageing, David Davis. This declaration strengthens the partnership between the MAV and the State Government to work together towards common goals, including better state and local planning for the creation of age-friendly communities.
