Victorian Maternal and Child Health Service continues to operate
The Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) is reassuring young families that all Victorian councils’ Maternal and Child Health Services continue to operate during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Maternal and Child Health Services have robust processes and measures in place to help combat the spread of coronavirus and keep nurses, parents, and babies safe.
Councils have also adapted to enable greater online and phone communication between nurses and families as part of these measures.
Priority groups, such as young infants, however, are being offered brief face-to-face visits to undertake physical assessments.
Other groups, including new parents' groups, are utilising video link platforms to retain the sense of connectedness and community spirit the Maternal and Child Health Service prides itself on.
Cr Coral Ross, President of the MAV, said the Maternal and Child Health Service is a vital community service provided by local councils.
“Victorian councils have provided Maternal and Child Health Services to the community for over 100 years and continue to assist families during these uncertain times.
“Many council services have adapted to the changing environment and the Maternal and Child Health Service is no exception and continues to provide families with the direct support they need.
“Together with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), MAV is updating Maternal and Child Health guides to reflect the latest change in restrictions.
“We encourage any families that have concerns to contact their local council Maternal and Child Health Service or the Maternal and Child Health Line on 13 22 29 for information and support.”
