Victorian Councils Win Top Tech Awards

One of the smallest councils in Victoria and Australia, Yarriambiack Shire Council, contested strong competition from larger metropolitan councils nationally to clinch two awards for excellence at the 2021 MAV Technology Conference.

One of the smallest councils in Victoria and Australia, Yarriambiack Shire Council, contested strong competition from larger metropolitan councils nationally to clinch two Awards for Excellence at the 2021 MAV Technology Champions of Change Conference.

Yarriambiack - a Council that is located in north-western Victoria and with a population of less than 7000 people - won the awards for Digital Leadership of the Year and Victorian Achievement of the Year with its innovative ICT business transformation entry.

Other Victorian Awards for Excellence winners included: the City of Melbourne in the Presentation of the Year category for its Corporate Data Catalogue Project, and the City of Casey for its Technology @ Casey – 2020 Strategic Plan in the Strategy & Planning Achievement of the Year category.

City of Casey also received high commendations at the Awards, as did the City of Boroondara, Brimbank City Council and Hobsons Bay City Council.

The MAV Technology Champions of Change conference was held on 27-29 April, and focused on transforming local government to serve and support communities in the COVID-era. Topics included emerging technologies, digital leadership, new and collaborative ways of working, AI, business transformation, data governance, customer experience, smart cities and digital access – as well as navigating the massive cultural change that all this will bring.

The City of Darwin won this year’s Australian Achievement of the the Year for their “myDarwin Support Local Program” which was developed by a small team to assist economic recovery following the COVID-19 lockdowns. Victorian councils actively share knowledge and resources to improve efficiencies and outcomes across the state and look forward to collaborating with interstate Award winners to accelerate outcomes for communities across the nation.

MAV President, Cr David Clark, congratulated Yarriambiack saying its success spoke volumes about the dedication of its team.

“It is a testament to the innovation, collaboration and effort of the team at Yarriambiack that it has won, not one, but two awards,” Cr Clark said.

“It was an example of the tremendous work of the local government that enabled the unprecedented cultural and technological shift in the community as they faced a particularly challenging period over the past year with the COVID 19 pandemic.”
