MAV Submission to Rate Capping Inquiry
The MAV has made a preliminary submission to the Environment and Planning Committee’s inquiry into rate capping.
The Committee’s inquiry will examine the rate capping framework as well as the ongoing implications of the framework on the sector and the community.
The MAV’s submission emphasised the points made to the Essential Services Commission as part of their options paper consultation, as well as highlighting the current ambiguity in how the framework will operate.
The submission emphasises our principle that a democratic level of government’s revenue powers should not be constrained, and raises concerns that the focus of the sector’s activities could narrow to mandatory statutory requirements, to the detriment of the community and policy innovation.
The submission will be available in the coming days.
