2020 Survey Results
MAV conducted an initial survey with councils in 2020 to understand the activity occuring and barriers encountered when developing walking and bike riding projects. Eighty-five percent of councils responded to the survey.
Barriers
Lack of funding
Eighty percent of councils identify funding as a critical barrier.
Approval processes
More than eighty percent of metro councils said approval processes was a barrier to delivering walking and cycling improvements.
Strategic Plans
- Forty percent of councils have a specific walking plan.
- Fifty percent of councils have a specific cycling plan.
Council Intentions
- Fifty percent of councils reported they are planning to deliver more walking and cycling projects in teh next six months.
- Fifty percent of metro councils are planning to undertake behaviour change campaigns (but only ten percent of regional councils are planning to do the same).
